Counties Associate Evangelist, Steve Tresedar, explains how 10 years after the event, he heard how a former student found Jesus through GSUS Live.

Steve and Gwyneth Treseder live in Swansea and have two children and three grandchildren.  They left full time employment in the year 2000 to go to Pakistan as house parents in a Christian school.  They are currently part of the fellowship at Castleton Chapel in the Mumbles where they work together in reaching out to the local community. They are both involved in pastoral work in the fellowship as well as work with children and youth.  Steve has been involved with GSUS live since its inception just after the turn of the century. He also visits the local schools on a regular basis. Steve and Gwyneth became Counties associates in 2017.

STEVE’S STORY

During August, Gwyneth and I were sitting on the Aberavon seafront at “Church on the Beach” – an open-air service that a local church had arranged. As part of the service, a young man about 25 years old, told his story of how he had come to know Jesus as his Saviour.

In his teens, he had been an atheist because: “it seemed the right thing to do as everyone else thought that way”. One day in school he was presented with a Gideon New Testament which he received with disdain, as he considered the Bible to be a collection of fairy tales. A short time afterwards the GSUS Live trailer visited his school. Following his visit to the trailer he read the testament to: “see what these stupid Christians believed”.

Reading through John’s gospel, he was gripped by the person and teaching of Jesus. Just a little later, the pastor of a local church held a seminar in his school on “Who was Jesus?”

This young man is now an active follower of the Lord Jesus Christ after he gave his life to the Lord after the pastor’s seminar. He attended Glan Afon Comprehensive and I can vividly remember the visit of the GSUS Live trailer.

The access was “impossible”, but we had a superb driver that day. He navigated the trailer down an alley with half an inch on either side. At the time, the set-up team, who had spent hours with the Stobart driver trying to get the trailer in, had been asking ourselves: “Is it worth the effort?” It was! God had a message for a young teenager that would become one of His own.

GSUS Live continues to help secondary school students explore the themes of fear, forgiveness, and rejection through the teachings of Jesus. This student’s testimony shows how seeds can be sown, even though we may not see the fruit for many years. God’s timing is always perfect, and He is working in the lives of young people through GSUS Live and the Life exhibition throughout each school term - up and down the county.
