Counties Evangelist, Clive Cornish, shares how his testimony prompted an unsaved film producer to make a movie of him - which has won top award.

Clive Cornish has a heart to take the Gospel to people in whatever way he can; from walking a full-size cross - 12 feet high, having a 6-foot span and weighing 60 lbs, running marathons with his cross, and climbing mountains with the same cross.

He also has a heart for his community and is part of a Church plant, Reflect Community Church. He uses these diverse aspects of his life to meet people where they are.

The message remains: “Jesus died for you because He loves you. There is no escape from this fact.”

Clive says: “I plan to leave this world at 70 because people drive me up the wall. Knowing the Lord has a mansion prepared for me, I have requested that the Lord build it in a rural location. The Lord has responded: ‘I have gifted you with building abilities. I will provide you with a trowel’.

“This is the Lord’s humour, as people think I belong to them, to use and abuse and have my life. ‘That's right,’ says the Lord.

Roll on 70!”

CLIVE’S STORY

I received an email from a gentleman called Joseff Morgan after he saw a picture of me with my cross in a friend’s office and he thought: “There’s a story here”. So we met up and he told me he wanted to make a film to which I agreed as long as he stuck to the story and “made me look good!” And, I think, he did both of those things!

He’s a real genuine fella who is a freelance film-maker. He tried to get Netflix, the BBC etc. involved and none of them were interested. However, he said to me: “I can’t just wave it away. I am going to finance it myself.”

So he hired all the equipment, he got a crew to come with us, and an editor for when we’d finished filming. He also got permission to climb up Snowdon. He paid for our accomodation and travel expenses too.

We went just after Covid and we ended up standing at the bottom of the mountain on the day we were due to start filming, but the mist was so bad and it was pouring was with rain. I looked at his face and we all knew it wasn’t going to happen. He was crestfallen as we had to cancel the trip.

I did end up talking to him about the Lord and we re-arranged the trip which we did last year. I have climbed Snowdon in the past, up the big track, but he wanted to go up the smaller track which I haven’t climbed before.

So, we got to this one place and I said: “Which way is it now Joseff?” and he pointed up. And it literally was just ‘up’. He said: “Sorry pal.” So, I had to carry my cross up the mountain rather than diagonally across from side-to-side.

He has now started going to church and on May 10 this year we attended an award ceremony at the Wrexham Film Festival. He won Welsh Film Maker of the Year which is a really prestigious award here in Wales.
