Counties Evangelist, Will Andrews, shares how “sometimes it is good to be reminded of the past” and look back at the great things God has done.
WILL’S STORY
Back in 1964, Bob Dylan wrote a famous song: ‘The times they are a changing’ and sometimes it is good to be reminded of the past. A young woman in her mid-twenties stopped us in a local Costa and said: “I think I know you, you used to come into my school.” We then found it was us who had taken assemblies in her school and she also attended several Holiday Bible Clubs we led in Wymondley School and Chapel. After we chatted with her, the comment that stuck with us was that, with an enthusiastic smile, she said: “I really loved it, they were great times!”
The manager of the same Costa had a similar conversation with us a few months ago when he realised we took assemblies in his primary school here in Stevenage. Although we no longer do schools or Holiday Bible Clubs it is great to be reminded of positive seeds that have been sown over the years that God will use in adult life.
A few years ago, we used metal boards to display Lynne’s large hand-painted visuals to tell a story. Recently, an occasion arose when using a story on the old board and easel was the best thing to use and it still did the job well. One person remarked: ‘When I saw the board I knew we were in for something special!’ Although I am well known for his use of PowerPoint these days, it was fun to be reminded of days gone by and the stages of ministry and methods God has enabled us to use to tell the glorious Good News, which does not change.
